Replaces Shop-bought tortillas
Tortilla
This is a game changer if you want to make great tacos. It makes a massive difference, but it adds some work to a taco night.

- Hands on
- 30 minutes
- Total time
- 1 hour
- Makes
- 8 tortillas
There is always a trade-off when making something yourself. It is a clear step up from store-bought tortillas, but it comes with a price in effort. I will not always make my own, but it is the perfect way to really enhance a great taco dinner.
Ingredients
- Flour250 g
- Salt1 tsp
- Baking soda0.5 tsp
- Fat, preferably tallow, but oil works50 g
- Warm water (50°C)1.5 dl
Method
- Mix the flour, salt and baking soda in a bowl, then add the fat and “pinch” it into the flour mixture.
- Add the water and knead until it is just combined. You really do not want to overdo it, as the gluten will make it tough. Divide the dough into 8 balls and let them rest under a towel for 30 minutes.
- Heat a pan, take each dough ball and roll it as thin as possible. Fry it in the dry pan until it puffs up and starts to char, flip it and fry until the other side is charred as well. Keep warm in a towel and eat as soon as possible.
One thing that helps. You have a hard time doing much else while you do step 3, so prepare the rest of the tacos before you start frying.
