Who runs this site
The Short List is a personal, non-commercial site run by Sebastian Hinze. Questions about your data: hello@tslfood.com.
What's stored, and why
Only if you create an account:
- Your name and email address: to sign you in, and to show your name next to your comments. Your password is stored only in scrambled form; nobody can read it, me included.
- Your comments: the text, your name, the recipe or article, and when you posted it. Comments are public: anyone visiting the site can read them.
- Your recipe box: which recipes you saved, and when. Only you can see it.
- When you were last here (last seen): the date you last used the site while signed in, saved at most once a day. It lets me see how many people actually use their accounts.
- Account dates: when you created the account, last signed in, and whether you've confirmed your email address.
That's all. Nothing is sold, shared with advertisers or used to follow you around other sites.
Where it's stored
The site runs on Google's Firebase. Comments, recipe boxes and profiles live in Firebase's database in the EU (Belgium and the Netherlands). Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, which Google may run on servers outside the EU, under Google's standard EU data-protection terms.
Like any web server, Google's servers see your IP address and browser type when you load a page and keep short-lived technical logs. The code that talks to Firebase is loaded from Google too. The fonts are served from this site, so loading a page doesn't send anything to Google Fonts.
Cookies and browser storage
No ads and no tracking cookies. When you sign in, your browser keeps a sign-in token so you stay signed in, plus a note of when last seen was last saved. Signing out removes the sign-in token.
How long it's kept
Until you delete it. Your account and recipe box stay until you delete your account. A comment stays until you delete it, you delete your account, or I remove it under the rules below. Deleted data disappears from the database straight away; it can take up to about six months to clear from Google's own backups.
How to delete everything
Sign in, go to My kitchen and use Delete my account at the bottom. It deletes your comments, your recipe box, your profile and your login, in that order, straight away. Can't sign in any more? Email hello@tslfood.com and I'll do it for you.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it: emailhello@tslfood.com. If you think I'm handling your data wrongly, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) or the data protection authority where you live.
Visitor statistics
There are none yet. Later I'll add simple visitor counts with GoatCounter, which counts page views without cookies and without identifying you. This page will be updated when that happens.
Comment rules
- Be kind.
